Pollock Executive Chair
1963
With a distinctive aluminum rim holding it together structurally and visually, the Pollock Executive Chair, designed for Knoll, had a look that complemented business machines, telephones, workstations, and skyscrapers.
As a student intern for Chuck Pollack in the early 70’s I learned that a timeless design was a lot of patience and perserverance, a sense of humor, a touch of brillance and, maybe, a little bit of good fortune with being in the right place at the right time. In speaking about the economics of being an industrial designer Chuck said, “All you have to do is create just ONE good chair, and you will never have to have another.”
Well, Charles Pollack did that alright. He created ONE smashingly GOOD chair.
no matter where I worked I asked for this chair…even when I was in the movie biz and was assigned designers for my office..I said I want this chair, thank you…it has followed me one way or another throughout my career….thank you, Charles.
